Celebrating Independence Day is so 1776.

This year, the Hayes Valley Farm wants you to celebrate a slightly different holiday.

Held from 1-3pm today at the Hayes Valley Farm (Laguna & Oak), Interdependence Day is a giant potluck picnic. This is the third year the Farm has put this on and you can enjoy picture-taking, compost-turning and cake to go along with the food you bring.

The Photo Adventure Club will be helping out with the compost-turning and picture taking from 1-2pm.

The picnic takes place from 2-3pm. And as promised, there will be cake.

According to the Hayes Valley Farm, here’s what you need to bring:

-A picnic dish to share
-Re-usable plate, cup, silverware — this is a zero waste event
-Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses; a windbreaker in case it gets cold
-Cute 4th of July picnic outfit (gingham, jeans, sundress, etc.)
-Picture-taking device (camera, smartphone), a friend, a smile

You can RSVP on Facebook or just head there this afternoon with your grub.

Whatever you end up doing, we hope you have a safe and fun Fourth of July!
