A Paralympics athlete had his customized bike stolen on Thursday while he was staying in Hayes Valley.
We learned from numerous sources (Local Addition, Huff Post San Francisco) that the robbery took place late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning on Linden Way.
According to the Huffington Post, “Krzyszof Jarzebski, 53, of Poland was staying in Hayes Valley when someone drilled a hole in a locked gate of an apartment and stole his hand-cranked bike from the stairwell on Thursday.”
The bike was a $13,000 handcycle he was planning on using to make a cross-country trip to New York City. He planned on doing 200 miles a day along the I-80.
Jarzebski is a double amputee who lost his legs to Cancer in 1991.
If he can’t get the bike back, he plans on still making the trip… by using a wheelchair.
The bike has a sticker with the letters “AZSLODZ” on it. If you know anything, please contact the SF Police Department’s anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444.
