Ditto, a company that makes an iPhone app allowing users to check in places and see other people’s recommendations, was recently acquired by Groupon.
Located here in Hayes Valley, the team will shut the app off on April 30 and begin working on an undisclosed project for their new employer.
Founded by Jyri Engestrom, a Finnish entrepreneur who previously co-founded Jaiku, Ditto made their goal “to make it really simple and fun to discover new restaurants, movies, and things to do using your phone.”
In the blog post announcing their big news, the site gives quite the compliment to Hayes Valley:
“Our friend runs a tea shop by our office in Hayes Valley, San Francisco. There’s a bookshop, a coffee kiosk, a yoga studio and an arts and crafts shop. The people who go there get to know each other. There’s a community.
We’re joining Groupon to help communities like Hayes Valley thrive everywhere.”
What starts in Hayes Valley changes the world. Or at least inspires others to change the world. Either way, congrats to Ditto and we look forward to you representing us well at Groupon!
